Prairie Run open space

Boulder County recently broke ground on a major open space project near Erie, marking a key step in expanding public parks and outdoor recreation opportunities in the region. The initiative — part of the Prairie Run Open Space development along East Boulder Creek — will create new trails, natural areas, and wildlife habitat on more than 1,300 acres between Erie, Niwot, and Longmont. Phase I of the project began in early October 2025 and includes construction of a soft-surface trail, access to Boulder Creek, benches, a shade structure, and a trailhead with parking and ADA-accessible amenities, with portions expected to open in 2026. This effort reflects Boulder County’s commitment to conservation, outdoor recreation, and connecting communities to open space while preserving natural features and scenic Front Range landscapes.
